Your page (on this beautiful Karl's website) is very well done. I appreciate the views of other forces/nationals who participated in the war. I was in Japan (occupation duty in Beppu, Kyushu) when the war began. My 19th Infantry Regiment arrived Pusan on 4 July 1950. I departed Korea June 1952. I was stationed in Rochefort, France in 1953 and 54. Jim C.

Comments: Got the this web site from one of my old buddies that I was stationed with in B'haven. I was assigned to the Marine Detachment from 1959 to 1961. I was in "Bravo" watch my whole tour. I have several photos that I would like to share with you. Don't have time today but will get to soon. You can list me in you Alumni list if you wish. I was a LCpl while there. Went on to spend 21 years in the Corps retiring as a 1stSgt. Will get more information to you later. Looks like a good site but you need to include the Marine Detachment in the history as we worked and played along side our Navy brothers and sisters to help make B'haven one of the best duty stations in the world. Regards Gale N. Monda

I arrived at B'Haven in Sept 1967 as CTM3, left in Sept 1970 as CTM1 going to Winter Harbor ME. Most all of my time was on Delta section watch working with "T" branch on first floor of ops building. Many fond memories, especially the Delta section bowling nights. Al

Comments: I was born in 1971, and adopted at birth. After turning 18, through limited contact with my biological mother, I learned my biological father never came home from Vietnam. Since then I have felt a very strong connection to the men and women who fought and died there, those who didn't come back, and those whose waited in vain for their loved ones to return. The contact I had with my mother was very brief and she wouldn't give me his name, so I've never been able to find any information about him or the circumstances under which he was reported missing or lost. All I know is that he was a Ranger, and was reprted MIA sometime in his 7th month in-country. I have, however, had a chance to visit the memorial in Washington D.C. I cried very deeply and for reasons I still cannot explain. It is a very emotionally moving experience. I wear a POW/MIA braclet, one that I got for a donation to the Veterans Fund at a stand in the Memorial Park. I wish to extend my deepest respect to all veterans who have fought in any conflict, at any time. You are the unsung heroes that bind history to mankind, for without you only darkness and chaos would reign supreme. Without the sacrifices made by you and your fallen kin the free world would not be free. Thank you for allowing me to express these feelings, I've never really had the chance to do so. Very Sincerely, Bryon Hufford

Comments: My father, J.C. Webb, was an Electrician's Mate on the Mansfield from 1948 to 1952. I grew up hearing about the Mansfield, the mine incident, as well as playing sailor with Dad's Navy hat. My brother and I slept under his old Navy blankets. Recently, I'd been mentioning to my dad that I might just write the Department of the Navy to see if I could get a copy of the Mansfield's service record and particularly what finally happened to it. In the meantime, Dad found your site on an AltaVista search. Your site has answered all the questions that I had, and I feel privileged to be a "son of the Mansfield" and the distinguished service given by my Dad, his fellow crew members, as well as those who preceded him and followed him in service. Thanks for maintaining this website. Now to contact my library and see if I can get a copy of that book on interlibrary loan. One's gotta be out there somewhere!

Comments: The USS Mattaponi (AO-41) served in WW2, Japan Occupational Force, Korea, Suez Crisis, Cuban Crisis, and Vietnam ( seven deployments). As a converted merchant the Mattie never receives the attention the great destroyers of WW2 do. We held one of our last reunions in Fredricksburg Texas (Home of the Admiral Nimitz Museum). In the garden area behind the museum is the "Wall of Honor". Shipmates from WW2 ships purchase bronze plaques as a memorials and they are mounted on the wall. As of date the Mattaponi is the only ship that was in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam that has a plaque on the "Wall of Honor". ----A great place for one of your future reunions.

Great site, We the Sons & Daughters of the Confederacy have adopted two Oregon POW/MIAs and are very proud to have had a balloon Launch and were honored to be at the The Dalles Veterans Home. What a touching sight , The vets there were quite taken with the ceremony and many stood or sat at attention and saluted untill the balloons were completely out of sight! Of course the sittimg ones were in wheel chairs and unable to stand. It was a great moment and some was captured on film. Great site. Thanks for caring.

I'm really concerned about our pow/mia that may still be there. Why would vietnam still want them today? Have you ever read the book "Kiss the Boys Goodbye"?
