OPERATIONS - NAVIGATION

A variety of functions are performed by the men in the operations department. Signalmen and radiomen maintain the ship's ability to communicate by flashing light, signal flags, and by radio telephone and radio teletype. Radarmen work in Combat Information Center, assembling, analyzing, and disseminating surface and air contact information. The electronics technicians are responsible for maintaining the many rooms full of electronic equipment vital to the ship's operation.

"ON" division is not part of the operations department, but is its functions are operational in nature. Under the navigator, the division comprises not only the quartermasters, but also the yeomen, personnelmen, hospital corpsmen, and the postal clerk.
