EXECUTIVE OFFICER LCDR Raymond J. Hart was born on July 25, 1933 in Providence, Rhode Island and is the son of Mr. James A. Hart, currently of Cranston, Rhode Island. LCDR Hart graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1951 and from Rhode Island College in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in education. He served as a social science instructor in the Providence School District prior to his entering the service. LCDR Hart graduated from Officer candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island in 1956. He served as an insturctor at the U.S. Naval Preparatory School in Bainbridge, Maryland from December, 1956 to August, 1958. |
LCDR Hart began his seagoing career as an engineer. He served as engineering officer aboard the destroyer USS HAILY (DD-556) from 1958 to 1960. He was also engineering officer on the reserve and regular crews of the USS PARLE (DD-708) from 1960 to June, 1961 and again from September, 1961 to June, 1962. LCDR Hart's first command was from 1962-1963 as Officer in charge of the Destroyer Escord THADDEUS PARKER (DE-369). He then served as staff material officer for Commander destoryer Squadron SEVENTEEN from 1964 to 1966. Prior to his reporting aboard the MANSFIELD in October, 1968, LCDR Hart was selected to participate in the U.S. Navy exchange program. During this tour he waas attached to her Majesty'sCanadian Dockyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia. LCDR Hart is married to the former Jane L. Whitehead of Providence, Rhode Island. Like her husband, Mrs. Hart is a former teacher with the Providence Public Schools. The Harts have four children. |
