Robert David Yard

Robert David Yard of Gloucester died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on March 25, 2009 at the age of 69.

He was a former resident of Morris, CT and graduate of Wamogo HS. Bob raised his family in Bethlehem, CT, and then retired to Gloucester, VA. He served in the US Navy, from 1961-1966 active duty as a Cryptologic Technician, received a Vietnam Service Medal, and the US Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), and retired honorably from the US Naval Reserve in 1992.

He graduated from Quinnipiac College with a BS in Business Management in 1974, and worked for AT&T for 30 years retiring in 1998. He also served his community as an active member of the Lions Club, Parkinson's Support Group of Whitestone, VA, First Presbyterian Church, and the Verizon Pioneers. Bob was an avid outdoors man who lived fishing, especially ice fishing every year in CT.

He is survived by his loving wife Judi, son Garrett and daughter-in-law Melissa of Gloucester, VA; daughter Valerie Graziano and son-in-law Denny of Oakville, CT; sister Christine McGavran of Watertown, CT, sister Rebecca Hulford of Tucson, AZ, sister Anne Amerman of Tucson, AZ and three grand children Ainsley, Ethan and Ashlynn. He was a great father to his children and a great Poppy to his grandchildren. We all love him and will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lions Charity Fund of District 24D, 3145 Sterling Way, Portsmouth, VA 23703, or the First Presbyterian Church of Gloucester, 6470 Main St., Gloucester, VA 23061.

Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Gloucester, VA on Tuesday March 31, 2009 at 11:00 AM; a luncheon will be held after the service.
