These photos are from Jim Benbrook who was stationed in Bremerhaven with HQ and HQ Detachment, 106th Transportation Battalion (U.S. Army).

He had some pictures of his days in Bremerhaven with no place to put them. He attended Cryptography School in Fort Gordon, Georgia and worked in secure communications throughout his Army career.

Benbrook
SP4 Jim Benbrook, Lakewood, CA, standing by 106th Trans Bn radio van. The radio set was the AN/GRC-26C RTTY. The Staging Area mess hall is in the distant background.
Burns
PFC Mike Burns, Brooklyn, NY in front of the building that housed the HHD, 106th Trans Bn. Mike was my roommate and our two-man quarters were on the second floor just above his head.
HQ""
Building that housed the HHD, 106th Trans Bn. This was apparently training quarters for German Navy pilots during WWII. AFN Bremerhaven was on the other end of the building (not shown).

Quad
This is apparently one of the "Quad" buildings that housed other units stationed at the Staging Area. Notice the basketball hoop to the left.

Benbrook
SP4 Jim Benbrook, Lakewood, CA. I guess I didn't have enough sense to know when to get out of the cold.

Group
Bremerhaven Standesamt, June 2, 1964. Christa Lemke, Jim Benbrook, Helga (Draeger) Benbrook, Capt. Donald Woodhouse. I was stationed in Germany just long enough to find my wife and soulmate. Helga and Christa are both Bremerhaven gals who are still close friends to this day. I've lost touch with Capt. Woodhouse.
Benbrooks
Jim and Helga Benbrook, Headwaters of the Missouri River, Montana, July 27, 2002. Helga and I have been married for almost 40 years now.
