"I was one of the original 4 enlisted men sent to Bremerhaven along with Chief "Robbie" Robinson to open up the station. It was early 1953 and we worked in the Air Force Security Group area until our location was set up. Not sure of the other 3 enlistees names but I'll take a guess that they were: Bob Thome, Doug Matzke and "Ace" Bonner. "The reason I came up with their names is I had a Beer mug made while there and listed all the men in our group at that time and they were the three I was most familiar with. I'll give you a list of all the names on the mug. "This is the order they are listed on the mug with the CT emblem, anchor and map of Germany in the middle of the cup. Bremerhaven-Germany 1953-1955 across the top in gold letters and my first name in gold at the base of the mug. It is a regular run of the mill German beer mug with the flip top (Prussian helmet). Hold the mug up to the light and there is a nude gal sitting with her legs crossed. Looks like she is sitting on a backdrop of some kind:

I left in Sept. of '55 and was discharged in October. The station had grown since the time I had the beer mug made and the time I was discharged." |
