BUILDING A BIT OF BANGKOK

During the MANSFIELD's four day port visit to Bangkok, Thailand, from 28 November to 1 December, fifteen volunteer crew members undertook a people-to-people project. The men spent a full day helping to construct a nursery school and social welfare center in Bangkok's poverty ridden Wat Pai District.

Using funds made available by Commander, Seventh Fleet, the crew members purchased a truckload of fill earth for the marshy lot, cement flagstones to make a walkway to the school building, and creosote to preserve to wooden lattice work on the school.

Creosote will be the only protection the wooden
walls have from Thailand's tropical climate.
