ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

Engineering ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

To the uninitiated, a "snipe" is a long billed bird that inhabits swamps and marshes. In the Navy, he is an engineer.

MANSFIELD's "snipes" are responsible for the ship's machinery, and electrical system. They are also in charge of underway and inport damage control.

Keeping the screws turning on a 26 year ship is a big job, but MANSFIELD's engineering crew does it and does it well.

The Engineering Department was awarded the Destroyer Squadron NINE Engineering "E" for excellence for competitive year 1969.
