ENGINEERING "M" DIVISION |
---|
The M Division, a subdivision of the Engineering Department, is subdivided into two separate groups of personnel which are the boilermen and the machinists mates, collectively known as "snipes." The boilermen operate the boilers and fireroom equipment; transfer, test, and take inventory of fuels and water; serve as members of damage control parties; maintain and repair boilers, pumps, and associated machinery. the machinists mates have various jobs in the enginerooms which includes the maintenance of the main propulsoion engines (turbines, reduction gear, condensers) and such related auxilary equipment in the engineering spaces as pumps, compressors, generators, evaporators, valves, purifiers, lube oil coolers, governors and propeller shafts. As watch standers, machinists mates stand pump watches, evaporator watches, phone talker, and throttle watches while the ship is underway. Without these sources of power there would be no illumination, no fresh water or prepared food, no firing of guns, no electronic communication, and no movement of the ship. |

FOX "F" DIVISION |
---|
Our division is composed of the firecontrolmen, the sonamen, and the torpedomen. Our job in short is to direct the various projectiles to the target. We make use of various complicated devices to accomplish this end.
Sonar, radio, and optical equipment are all very complex, hence our greatest asset is a number of well trained men, experts in electronics, mechanics, and eletrical machinery. If the target is within range, we tell the gunners mates how to lay their guns for a hit. In this game we can even hit 'em when we can't see 'em. |

REPAIR "R" DIVISION |
---|
The "R" Division, a subdivision of the Engineering department, consists of various groups including the shipfitters, electricans, I. C. and machinery repair gangs. These men take care of the odd jobs around the ship. The "R" Division's primary responsibilities include: electrical lighting and power, interior communications, ships master gyro compass, steering engines, heating, ventilation, plumbing and piping systems, refrigeration systems, water tightness of the ship, and all work needed to be accomplished by the machine and shipfitters shops. Most of the "R" Division are personnel in damage control parties during general quarters, and are responsible to the damage control office for keeping the ship a fighting unit as long as possible in case of sustained battle damage. |
