Robert Ray Horan

CTMC Robert Ray Horan, USN/RET, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Winston-Salem , NC, on October 1, 2013. He was born January 6, 1936 at Boston, MA.

He enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1953 and served in the Naval Reserve for three years. He then served in the Naval Security Group for twenty years and retired in 1976. He was stationed many places around the world, including USS NEWMAN K. Perry, Security Detail at President Eisenhauer's Summer White House, Maryland, Massachusetts, California, Germany, Turkey, Rhode Island, Maine, Guam, Philippines, Florida, Alaska, Illinois, and Azores. During his naval service he was awarded Good Conduct Medals (5), Naval Unit Commendations (2), National Defense Service Medal (2) NSG Meritorious Service Medal and USAF Unit Commendation Medal.

Bob enjoyed friends, gardening, locksmithing, and Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association- National reunions and New England Chapter mini-reunions. Bob was a "Plank Owner" of the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Associaton – New England Chapter. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge. Donations in his name may be made to Wounded Warriors.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Brown) Horan and their two daughters, Karen Marcoux, Diana Bonefant and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents George and Rose Horan.

Inurnment of the ashes will be in Dunstable, Massachusetts in the spring 2014
